It was 1998 when Peter Gastberger gave wings to his vision for lake Wolfgang and turned his idea of an inhabitable experience into reality with the scalaria. Pure, exclusive and unmistakable. Even then, the circus circus theater-restaurant was a unique location that was perfect for staging brands and unforgettable company celebrations. Not least thanks to the specially developed lifting and suspended stage, which was a pioneering concept shortly before the turn of the millennium.
It was only a matter of time before the big stars caught wind of this unique location. And so, since 2019, the Living Legends of Aviation Europe Awards have been presenting the Oscars of aviation at scalaria, with a touch of Hollywood wafting across the lake thanks to special personalities such as John Travolta and Morgan Freeman. Entrepreneurs, industry leaders, astronauts, pilots and record holders from all over the world will also come together to celebrate the fascinating world of aviation for a weekend.

Despite its impressive size and diversity, scalaria is still a family business under the management of the Gastberger family. Peter Gastberger continues to play the decisive role in the further development and realization of his visions. His daughters Simone and Marlene Gastberger manage the operational business as Head of scalaria and Senior Project Manager & Finance. Humberto Schenk, a long-time employee of scalaria and trusted friend of the family, completes the management team (Head of scalaria) and takes on various areas of responsibility and agendas.
The scalaria team is a virtuoso ensemble of talents who complete the philosophy of the scalaria through personal responsibility, creative joy and hospitality.

100% CO2 neutral thanks to heat exchange pump
Even though the scalaria is known as a world-famous stage on the lake, pioneering measures in the area of sustainability and climate protection have been and are being taken behind the scenes throughout its existence. For example, the newly installed lake heat exchange system draws heat and cold from the lake water, while the in-house photovoltaic power plant generates the energy required for this heat pump. This results in complete CO2 neutrality. In addition, an innovative water pipe system runs through all the rooms, enabling a closed cooling circuit for heating and cooling without causing any pollution.
